Why a hashtag misses most of your photos
A hashtag only finds the photos guests post publicly and remember to tag. That's a small share of what gets taken.
Private accounts
Photos from private profiles never show up under your hashtag, however many guests use it.
People forget to tag
Most guests post a few favorites days later, if at all, and the rest stay on their camera roll.
Stories disappear
Tagged Stories vanish after 24 hours, and the photos and videos are compressed.
Not everyone is on Instagram
Grandparents, kids' phones and guests who don't post can't share with a hashtag at all.
A QR code gallery doesn't depend on any of that. Guests scan it at the table and upload straight from their camera roll, in full quality, whether or not they use social media. See how BridaLens works.
Tips for a wedding hashtag guests will use
- Keep it short and easy to spell. If a guest has to ask how to spell it, they won't use it.
- Read it out loud and in all lowercase, to catch accidental words where your names meet.
- Search it on Instagram and TikTok before you print it, so your photos don't mix with someone else's wedding.
- Pick one hashtag and use it everywhere: your wedding website, invitations, signs and the toast.
- Add the year if your names are common, like #MiaAndAlex2027, so the tag stays yours.
- Pair it with a QR code, so guests who don't post publicly can still share their photos with you.

Wedding hashtag questions
How do I come up with a wedding hashtag?
Start with your names: a mashup of your first names (like Bennifer), your new last name (#HappilyEverMoore) or both names with the year (#MiaAndAlex2027). Add a pun if your last name lends itself to one. This generator does all of that for you: enter your names, pick a style and tap Regenerate until one feels right.
Is this wedding hashtag generator free?
Yes. No sign-up and no limit. Everything runs in your browser, so the names you type are never sent or stored.
Can I use names with accents, hyphens or two last names?
Yes. Hyphens, spaces and apostrophes are removed so the hashtag works (Mary-Jane becomes #MaryJane, O'Brien becomes #OBrien) and accented letters are kept. Double-barrelled last names are used as one word, and puns are matched on each part.
Should a wedding hashtag include the year?
Add the year if your names or last name are common, since someone else has probably used #SmithWedding already. A unique mashup or pun usually doesn't need one. Search the hashtag on Instagram before you decide.
Do wedding hashtags actually collect guests' photos?
Only some of them. Photos from private accounts don't appear under a hashtag, many guests never post, and Stories disappear after a day. Use the hashtag for the photos guests share publicly, and a shared gallery for everything else.
How can guests share photos without a hashtag?
With a QR code that opens a shared gallery. BridaLens gives you a private wedding gallery with its own QR code: guests scan it and upload photos, videos and voice messages from their phone browser, with no app or account, and you download everything in one zip. It's $24.99, one-time.
